FAQ:

1.What can I do with AirSig VR/AR Development Kit?
It's a VR/AR SDK of VR Gesture and Signature. It helps VR/AR developers design content with intuitive interaction and authentication. For example, your customer/player can just draw a symbol to quickly change weapons, perform skills, or create a "magic" gesture. Or quickly authenticate himself, using his signature.

2.What do you mean by "VR Gesture"? What are the differences with 2D gesture?
Most existing gesture recognition are drawing a 2D gesture on smartphone screen and followed by a reaction. This makes sense on a smartphone, but not in the VR/AR environment. AirSig VR Gesture recognition allows a player to make a gesture or a signature with the VR controller, then recognizes it and reacts!

3.What are the differences between AirSig and gesture technologies like Leap Motion or Intel RealSense?
Leap Motion, based on computer vision, allows users to interact with the virtual world by identifying and tracking positions of user's ten fingers. Up to now, these technologies can only recognize simple movements like picking up virtual objects. They are not good at understanding gesture "semantics". Usually they can only recognize bigger movements. Limited by responsive speed and accuracy, the user experience is not good enough.
AirSig's strength is gesture semantics recognition algorithm. It's capable of accepting input from the IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) on VR controller to provide fast and accurate gesture recognition. With the improving accuracy of 3D cameras, it's also possible to use 3D camera as the input source of AirSig in the future.

4.Wii also detects movements with controllers, what are the differences between Wii and AirSig?
Wii's movement detection is simpler. It only detects the directions, forces and time differences of the controller. It can not recognize meaningful gestures such as player drawing a lightning, let alone increasing accuracy level to signature authentication of monetary applications.

5.What are the advantages of AirSig comparing with existing interaction technologies?
The greatest advantage of AirSig is providing fast and intuitive interaction. Comparing with virtual keyboards or virtual mouses, gesture recognition does not need to point and click repeatedly. Users can trigger intended action in 0.1 second. Due to the high association between gestures and actions, the interaction is very natural.

6.What are the advantages of AirSig comparing with existing authentication technologies?
In VR world, it's much faster and safer to authenticate by signing signature than typing passwords on a virtual keyboard. It takes just ONE second to authenticate for login or payment needs. Another use case is to easily distinguish different players in multiplayer game or on game rank. It's also much easier to identify them by signing signature than typing ID on a virtual keyboard.

7.As a VR/AR developer, what benefits can I bring to my customers/players with AirSig VR/AR Development Kit?
Your customers/players will be able to create whatever VR Gestures they want in your VR/AR content, easy and fast. It brings more fun to your customers/players and make your content stand out. For example, a Harry Potter game player can create a gesture of lightning shape to cast an attacking spell, or a gesture of heart shape to cast a healing spell. And your customers/players must be eager to get rid of the painful password-typing on a virtual keyboard.

8.It looks cool to use gesture recognition in VR games. Any concrete examples to understand what effects can gestures make?

9.So AirSig gesture recognition is mainly for VR games?
No. Gesture is one of interactive modes. Not just in games, players interact with the system all the time. For example, players can draw a circle to go back “Home” or draw an arrow to go to previous page. Another example is in a VR painting software, players can draw an “R” to switch the paintbrush color to red or a “G” to green.

10.Can you give me more details about AirSig's features?
Two main functions of AirSig are "VR Gesture Recognition" and "3D Signature Authentication".

VR Gesture Recognition:
a) Developers can use the built-in gestures in their applications.
b) Developers can create their own gestures. For example, to develop a fishing game, developers can create several fishing movements to increase the interaction and immersion.
c) Players can create their own gestures. For example, in a magic game, a player is allowed to create his own power magic gesture after reaching certain level.

3D Signature Authentication:
A player creates his signature at first. When he needs to login or pay in VR, instead of typing passwords, he can just sign his signature in the air to authenticate in 1 second.

11.How accurate is AirSig?
The accuracy is over around 98% for gesture recognition, depending on the gesture amount and condition. The more users use it, the more accurate it will be.
For signature authentication, the pass rate is over 98% and hacked probability is less than 0.001%, which is equivalent to NIST requirement and certified.

12.Can users remember so many gestures and signatures?
If you use AirSig as gesture shortcut, we suggest you apply 3 to 8 frequently used gestures in your application. Since the gestures are highly associated with triggered actions, plus showing on-screen gestures graph as a quick reference, it'll be easy for users to practice gestures.
As for the signature, user just signs his frequently used signature which is easy to remember.

13.As a VR/AR developer, why should I use AirSig VR/AR Development Kit instead of developing my own?
High accuracy gesture recognition is a very difficult domain. Using AirSig, VR/AR developers can create highly accurate VR Gestures with zero coding. With that said, you save lots of developing time and cost, and make your content go to market faster than ever.

14.I understand signature authentication is a hard technology, but is it that difficult to develop gesture recognition myself?
Gesture recognition is not as that easy as you thought. Everyone in the world has their own habitual behaviours of drawing a heart shape. For example, the size, shape, etc. It's hard to recognize them accurately. If it's not accurate enough, imagine how furious the players will be when they are recovering health points in a hurry but fail and die!

15.Is it difficult to integrate AirSig in my applications?
Not at all! In general, an experienced developer can be familiar with our technology in one day. However, developers who want to create their own gestures will need to find 10 persons to collect diversified gestures to increase the gesture generosity.

16.Which platforms does AirSig VR/AR Development Kit support?
We have Google Daydream and HTC Vive version on hand. We can port it to any platform Oculus, Sony VR on demand.
